The second edition of the Ghana Ladies in Tech Summit has been held by Ghana Tech Lab at Accra Digital Center on Friday November 25, 2022.

Ghana Ladies in Tech is a community of female entrepreneurs and innovators in tech. The ladies are brought together and then provided with holistic training and support in tech.

The ladies are taken through digital skills training, counselling and health sessions as well as career guidance, mentorship to give all women in the tech space a safe haven. So that if they need any form of support in their journey in tech Ghana Ladies in Tech is the place they can touch base with.

This year’s summit had Anita Erskine giving the keynote address on ‘Promoting Female Participation in Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship.’

The panel session was on the topic ‘Breaking the bias-Redefining Women’s Involvement /Rising in Tech’ with Winfred Kotin, Zulaiha Dobia Abdullah and Dr. Angela Tabiri.

Speaking in an interview with Starrfm.com.gh the National Coordinator for Ghana Ladies in Tech, Belinda Darkwa indicated that the summit is to celebrate women entrepreneurs and innovators across Ghana.

She added that it is to recognize all what the women in tech have done which comprises their start-ups and businesses.

According to her, the initiative that started two years ago with 245 members can now boast of 808 members across the country.

“That tells you that there are a lot more women who need the guidance and support that we are offering. We have mothers enrolled in the program and we have supported over 20 mothers with funds because they come to the training with their children.

“So we give them money to take their children to daycare so that they will be able to focus on the training. We have been able to help some ladies to acquire jobs in the tech space. So far what we are doing has really had a great impact and the numbers keep growing. People are interested in empowering and ensuring that women in the tech space have a safe haven,” madam Darkwa stated.

She said every region has one Ladies in Tech community “so no matter where you are if you are a woman and you need support as a woman in tech you have a community that will support you.

“We give funds and the training that we give are for free so one of the key challenges has been with funds. So we have to have a limited number of people that we take because we can’t take every applicant at the same time. Because of funds for training and other payments.

“But we are grateful to our partners, MasterCard Foundation, World Bank and the Ministry of Communication, they have been great support for us. But we will need more support so that we can have more women on board.”
