The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) has projected a sharp increase in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices in the second half of October 2026, even as petrol and diesel prices are expected to decline.
In its October 16 pricing outlook, COMAC forecasts that LPG prices will rise by between 16.98% and 18.50%, while petrol prices are expected to fall by 1.20% to 1.67% and diesel prices by 2.60% to 3.32%.
The projections present mixed news for consumers, with motorists potentially benefiting from lower petrol and diesel prices while households and businesses that depend on LPG could face higher cooking fuel costs.
COMAC attributed the expected adjustments to developments in the international petroleum market, where crude oil prices have continued to face pressure from geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions.
“Average crude oil prices rose by 2.03% to US$126.73 per barrel for the 16 October 2026 pricing window,” the report stated.
The report linked the increase to renewed supply concerns, including attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, which have heightened fears of further disruptions to crude oil shipments.
However, international prices of refined petroleum products moved in different directions during the period.
“However, refined petroleum product prices recorded mixed movements. LPG posted the highest increase at 7.77%, while diesel recorded the steepest decline at 6.68%, followed by petrol at 3.93%,” COMAC stated.
The performance of the Ghanaian cedi against
the US dollar has also featured in the latest pricing outlook, with the report indicating that the currency weakened during the period under review.
“The cedi depreciated by 1.61%% to GH¢11.8222/US$ based on average bank rates between 26th September and 11th October 2026,” the report stated.
COMAC noted that seasonal import demand and higher energy costs continued to weigh on the local currency, creating additional pressure on petroleum import costs.
