Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has declared that the country’s ambition for the 2026 FIFA World Cup goes beyond merely participating on the pitch, insisting that Ghana intends to maximize every opportunity the global tournament presents.
Speaking at a media engagement on Tuesday, the Minister said the government is determined to ensure Ghana benefits both on and off the field during the Mundial, which will be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. According to him, the World Cup offers enormous opportunities in tourism, business, networking, and international exposure that Ghana must fully exploit.
Kofi Adams also revealed that the Ministry is facilitating visa acquisition processes for organized supporters expected to travel to the tournament. However, he noted that some fans who have been assisted are yet to present themselves at various embassies to complete their visa applications.
The Sports Minister further assured the public that adequate financial provisions have already been released by the Ministry of Finance to support Ghana’s participation in upcoming international sporting competitions, including preparations toward the World Cup.
Addressing concerns surrounding travel arrangements for supporters, the Minister clarified that the Ministry of Sports and Recreation has not awarded, and does not intend to award, any contract to travel and tour agencies to organize trips for fans heading to the World Cup. He urged the public to disregard any claims suggesting otherwise.
