Ghanaian musicians must ‘cook a language’ for the world to buy – Sonnie Badu

Gospel Musician, Dr. Sonnie Badu has advised Ghanaian musicians to get an international language that the world can buy easily.

Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray Thursday, Dr Badu stated that Nigerians have the broken English that works for them and easily marketed.

“What helps Nigerians is this, universal language in Nigeria is broken English so you can write a song in broken English, but we (Ghanaians) don’t have broken English as our universal language. We have twi everybody speaks twi now we have to cook something for the world to buy,” Dr. Badu stated.

He advised the Ghanaian musicians to also consult their Nigerian counterparts and learn from them.

“If you want to do something, why don’t go and find out, if you have Bola Ray’s number, hey I want to set up a radio station and Bola Ray will teach you. That’s how it happens.

“I listen to them and I say this is not going to get to Nigeria. You don’t get the accent right, they don’t do it right. So it is not going to get there. My arms are open. I can teach you, I can tell you exactly how it works,” the gospel musician stated.

According to him, he is bringing in a talking drummer from Nigeria to Ghana and it’s different from what is in Ghana.

“There is a difference between a dondo and a talking drum. Except Nigeria plays the talking drum, the sound behind the dondo is too light but the talking drum goes deeper. That is what the Yorubas’ use,” he added.
