GHOne TV’s news presenter and health reporter, Nadima Umar Uthman, has been selected as one of the distinguished journalists to receive the 2023 Covering Rare Diseases Fellowship. This prestigious accolade, organized by the National Press Foundation (NPF) in the United States, will take place in this month, November 2023 and will bring together 25 world-class journalists to delve into the critical area  of rare diseases.

Nadima Umar Uthman, with over five years of experience as a dedicated broadcast journalist in Ghana, has made a significant impact in the field of health reporting. Her unwavering commitment to delivering precise, insightful, and empathetic health news has established her as a trusted voice in health reporting, particularly on matters related to maternal and child health.

Throughout her career, Nadima has excelled at simplifying complex health topics into engaging and educational narratives for audiences in Ghana and across Africa. Her extensive portfolio covers a wide range of critical health issues, including childhood cancers, sickle cell disease, rare diseases, lead poisoning in children, dementia, and maternal mortality, among others.

Nadima’s passion lies in using her work to promote health equity and highlight emerging technologies as essential tools to tackle health challenges in Africa. With a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies with a major in Journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism, she brings a wealth of knowledge and a dedication to her craft.

The NPF Covering Rare Diseases Fellowship is designed to facilitate extensive discussions, online briefings, and question-and-answer sessions with leading experts in rare diseases, diagnostics, targeted testing, and drug development. In addition to this, participants will have the opportunity to engage with patient advocacy group leaders and accomplished journalists who have extensively covered rare disease issues.
