A teenager has constructed a library for about 5000 school children to enhance reading and also improve teaching and learning in Ghana.

The “Read 2 Learn Foundation” established by 17-year-old, Ms Samantha Boateng, last year constructed a library for the Gbawe Cluster of Schools in Accra and is constructing another for pupils at Asuodei Primary School in Kumasi.

Speaking on Morning Starr, Ms Boateng said, “my love for reading and the need to help others to achieve their aims in life motivated me to undertake the library project.”

She added she is going to organise a quiz for 10 schools in the area with the winners being awarded prizes to motivate them read and learn more.

According to Boateng, the foundation equipped the facility with books and 22 computers which were collected from community libraries, schools, churches and radio listeners within a period of two years, with support from students of the New School of Northern Virginia, USA.

She stressed “the objective in building the library is to create the next generation of leaders through reading.”

She said the library in Kumasi will be completed by the close of the year. According to her, “We went to the library at Gbawe unannounced. When we got there, many students in the facility were reading. Indeed, we were so impressed.”
