President John Dramani Mahama has announced the establishment of a formal Board of Inquiry to investigate the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
Addressing the nation on Thursday evening, the President acknowledged the public’s desire for clarity and accountability, saying:
“Questions about the cause of this tragedy are natural and important. I want to assure the families and the nation that the Ghana Armed Forces has initiated a full and transparent investigation into the circumstances of this crash.”
The government confirmed that flight data and cockpit voice recorders from the crashed aircraft have already been retrieved, marking a critical first step in the ongoing investigations. The newly constituted Board of Inquiry will assess all technical and operational aspects surrounding the crash.

Flags are flying at half-mast, and the government has declared three days of national mourning, from August 7 to 9, to honour the victims.
