The national armwrestling team, Golden Arms, delivered a spectacular performance on Saturday, overpowering fierce opponents from Nigeria, Benin, and Togo to claim victory in the much-anticipated Independence Armwrestling Championship.
The event, which was organized to commemorate Ghana’s Independence and celebrate Ghana Month, brought together some of the strongest athletes in the region for an intense battle of strength, skill, and resilience.
In the 80kg Women’s category, Grace Mintah dominated the competition to claim the gold medal, while Florence Boakye Mensah put up an impressive performance to secure silver. Efia Kumah fought hard to finish in third place, earning a well-deserved bronze medal.
However, Wisdom, known as Ayigbe Mafia won gold in the 65kg men category, Daniel Acquah secured the silver medal, and Benin earned silver.
Meanwhile, in the 90kg Men’s category, Joshua Yeboah delivered a stellar performance to clinch the gold medal, showcasing strength and skill throughout the competition.
The event attracted a distinguished audience, including Hon. Kofi Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, who praised the athletes for their dedication and highlighted the importance of developing armwrestling in Ghana. Also present were:
