Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Péter Szijjártó has disclosed that his government is ready to support Ghana government’s ambitious policy of 1 village 1 dam and the 1 district 1 factory program.
The two policies were a major campaign promise by the NPP administration ahead of the 2016 elections.
Speaking at a Business Forum at the Kempisnki Gold Coast Hotel in Accra, Friday December 1, Mr. Szijjártó said Hungary is committed to ensuring a lot of people get access to potable water hence their commitment to ensuring that they partner the government’s laudable 1 village, 1 Dam policy.
“When I see your policies, 1 village, 1 dam, I think it is the best way to cooperate…We are ready to contribute to the success of this,” Mr. Szijjártó said.
Mr. Szijjártó said the government of Hungary in light of how it values Ghana and the rest of Africa has decided to increase its scholarship grants to country to ensure that more Ghanaians get trained with skills that can be used to transform the economy.
To this end, the Hungarian Foreign Minister revealed that his country’s government has decided to increase its scholarship grants to 100 slots from the previous 40 slots.
The business forum came a day after the European country re-opened its Embassy in Ghana.
Mr. Szijjártó described as unfortunate the decision by his country to close their embassy in Ghana some 30 years ago.
He associated that decision to the socialist regime that was in power then in his country.
He added that the reopening of the embassy in Ghana marks the establishment of permanent diplomatic relations with Ghana.
Several Hungarian business arrived in the country with Mr. Szijjártó to look for business opportunities and partner local firms to help drive Ghana’s developmental agenda.
