Security Consultant Richard Kumadoe has said the extension of IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno’s tenure sets a benchmark for leadership in the Ghana Police Service.
His remarks come amid criticism following President John Dramani Mahama’s approval of Yohuno’s tenure extension until December 28, 2025.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Wednesday, November 26, Mr. Kumadoe explained that the decision reflects the Police Council’s assessment that Yohuno’s leadership is crucial for operational effectiveness and stability in the service.
He highlighted Yohuno’s extensive experience, noting, “Yohuno has worked with the CID boss Lydia before, and Yohuno was the director of operations in the days of IGP Kudalor. Yohuno was the director of operations in the days of IGP Dampare. This is the man we are talking about.”
Addressing criticisms over police visibility, Mr. Kumadoe said, “When you put out police officers into the street, what objective? What do you want to achieve? These are security management decisions… They have nothing to do with law enforcement propaganda.”
He added that Yohuno’s core focus on crime prevention, investigation, security operations, and administration underpins the rationale for retaining him in office.
