Invite Casely Hayford for contempt – Mubarak to Parliament

The MP for Kumbungu in the Northern region, Ras Mubarak, has urged leadership of parliament to haul Financial Analyst and Social commentator, Sydney Casely Hayford before it for contempt.

Mr. Hayford speaking recently at a summit on “The Economic and Political Rise of Africa,” described the existence of the country’s lawmaking chamber as irrelevant and unimportant and that if he had opportunity he would destroy it.

“The first thing I will do if I had the opportunity is to break down parliament. We don’t need it”, he said.

“These people are sitting there, spending money like crazy, making stupid decisions, and passing stupid laws. They don’t read the papers that they are given, they don’t think through what the challenges are”, he added.

Enraged by the comments by Mr. Hayford, Mr. Mubarak implored parliament to drag the former before it for affronting the dignity of the lawmaking chamber and its inhabitants.

Making the plea on the floor of the House Thursday July 13, 2017, he said the Financial Analyst’s “insulting comments” are  not only an attack on the integrity of all members of parliament, past and present “but it even bothers on promoting hatred and vandalism when he talked about breaking down parliament.”

According to him, Mr. Hayford’s comments are “damn right offensive, they are outrightly benighted.”

“And coming from a man who seems discombobulated from the world he inhabits,” he warned “his comments if allowed to pass will set a very bad precedent and create more room for people to impugn the reputation of this House.”

“So Mr. Speaker,” he added, “I wish therefore to call on this honourable house to invite the gentleman [Mr. Hayford] to appear before the House to answer contempt charges.”

Mr. Mubarak’s pleas have since been referred to the leadership of the House for a final decision by the 1st deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joe Osei Owusu.
