The Ashanti Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Isham Alhassan Yaw Bonsu, has officially filed his nomination forms to contest the party’s Regional Chairmanship position in the upcoming internal elections.
Mr. Bonsu filed his nomination on Monday, October 5, 2026, and is awaiting the vetting process as his campaign team prepares to commence engagements with party executives, delegates and grassroots members across the Ashanti Region.
His filing formally advances his earlier declaration of interest in the chairmanship race, which he announced during his birthday celebration in Kumasi.
Mr. Bonsu has served the NDC at various levels since 1992, beginning at the ward level before progressing through constituency leadership to the regional level, where he has served as Deputy Regional Organiser and Regional Organiser.
He has attributed his political development to years of service, mentorship and experience under senior party figures, including Ambassador Daniel Ohene Agyekum, Nti Fordjour, Yaw Obimpeh and the incumbent Ashanti Regional Chairman, Augustus Andrews Nana Akwasi.
At the time of announcing his intention to contest, Mr. Bonsu said his experience had prepared him for the responsibilities associated with leading the party in the region.
“I am confident that I have prepared myself well for the contest ahead. With my experience, I believe I can win and effectively lead the party,” he stated.
In his latest communication to party executives, delegates and supporters, Mr. Bonsu said his decision to seek the chairmanship was motivated by a desire to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures rather than personal ambition.
He said his objective was to “rebuild, empower and restore hope” among the grassroots membership, which he described as the foundation of the NDC.
He has also called for a peaceful, respectful and unifying campaign as the internal contest gathers momentum, urging party stakeholders to prioritise the collective interests of the NDC.
Mr. Bonsu’s filing brings him directly into the regional chairmanship contest, with the incumbent, Augustus Andrews Nana Akwasi, also reported to have begun a campaign to retain the position for another term.
The emerging contest is therefore expected to attract attention among NDC delegates and supporters across the Ashanti Region as the party prepares to elect its next regional executives.
Following the filing of his nomination, Mr. Bonsu’s campaign structure is expected to roll out its activities across the region to engage delegates and communicate his vision for the party ahead of the elections.
