The Joberg Ghana Foundation has cut sod for the construction of a dressmaking center in Navrongo in the Upper East region.

The facility when completed will serve the over 100 skilled dressmakers in the community.

The center will have a total capacity of 30 workstations at the total cost of GHC250 000. The facility will also have sewing workstations, cutting, ironing and embroidery rooms.

Joberg Ghana Foundation will pay GHC200,000 for the construction while the Member of Parliament for the area will foot the remaining GHC50,000.

Speaking at the ceremony which was held Monday, July 5,2021, the CEO of Joberg Foundation Joseph Magnus Marteye said the project is aimed at improving the lives of the people in the community.

“This is in line with our charitable values of empowerment where we dedicate our efforts and resources to finding sustainable ways to improve the lives and futures of rural citizens. While at it, we build sustainable relationships with individuals, communities and organizations.

“Although the construction will be carried out by Joberg construction, the completed project will be handed over to the MP for membership registration, bookings and facility management. Since we want to be diverse and inclusive, Joberg Ghana Foundation is joining hands with other opinion leaders and communities in starting similar projects in other parts of the country. We wish to appeal for voluntary services from the people of the  Central communities during the construction process. At the end, all volunteers shall receive a certificate of participation from Joberg Foundation,” he said.

He added: “Also in Teshie in the Greater Accra region, a similar but smaller dress-making center has been established by the foundation. We are also about to begin the construction of a hospital block for the Manhyia polyclinic in collaboration with the Otumfour Foundation as well as many other similar projects in the pipeline. It is our hope that our modest donation will go a long way to improve the lives of the numerous dressmakers who will end up working in this facility and their families”.

For his part, the Member of Parliament for the area Sampson Chiragia said he was excited about the prospects of the project and the potential for his people.
