Former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for what he describes as significant progress in Ghana’s economy under his leadership.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the 46th Anniversary Commemoration of the June 4 uprising held at Odumase Krobo in the Eastern Region on Wednesday , Dr. Duffuor stated that compared to seven months ago, there have been visible improvements in the economy.

“The Economy you know where it was 7 months ago. We have seen progress haven’t we? John Mahama is making huge strides in the area of the Arn’t you happy? Arn’t you able to sleep well? What else are you looking for let’s pray that it continues” said Dr. Kwabena Duffuor.

He underscored the importance of the values and principles espoused during the June 4 Uprising, which was led by the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, stating that its core message of probity, accountability, and social justice remains highly relevant for the country and the African continent.

“We must respect human beings, must hace a government that will respect every body that’s what the messenger 46 years ago was talking about that makes that moment very relevant at all times. We are in difficulty now. Are we going through period of probity , accountability, and transparency? That makes the day relevant not only for NDC or Cadres for all nation and whole Africa”

He lamented how the country has been misgoverned and question whether the principle of probity and accountability is being upheld.

.”Let’s tell the whole nation that June 4 , that message is a message we should all take seriously if we want to develop our country. Probity, accountability, respect for human being, inclusive for all, Justice for all that’s why I like that message which June 4 came out from that messenger. The message was quiet clear and it is something we must uphold all that time -the message of Jerry John Rawlings -Probity, accountability, transparency , social justice and opportunity for all not for few people that should be the Ghanaian dream”.

This year’s event was under the theme “Resetting Ghana; Reflecting on June 4,” bringing together key figures of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), political leaders, and children of the former President Jerry John Rawlings.

Leading the gathering was the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, accompanied by General Secretary Fiifi Kwetey, former National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, and former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor.

Also in attendance were Deputy Minister for Interior, Ebenezer Okletey Teilarbi, and the children of the late President Rawlings — Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings and Kimathi Rawlings.
