The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG), has paid a glowing tribute to the late Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Ya-Na Abukari II.
JUSAG through it National President, Samuel Afotey Otu, said in May this year, he led a delegation of JUSAG members to the Gbewaa Palace to officially inform the Ya-Na about the conference.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony of the 2nd Quadrennial Delegates’ Conference of JUSAG at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, Afotey Otu recounted his last engagement with the late king.
“Naa Chairman, in May this year, I led a delegation of JUSAG members to the revered Gbewaa Palace to officially inform our father, king and overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, Ndan Ya-Na Abukari II, now late, about this Conference,” he said.
According to him, the late Ya-Na warmly received them and gave his blessings for the conference.
“The Great King gave us his blessings and promised to be with us, but God had a different plan for his life,” Mr. Afotey Otu noted.
He said news of the Ya-Na’s demise came as a shock to the entire JUSAG membership.
“The news of his demise came to us as a shock. We followed up to commiserate with the people of Dagbon and the Regent, His Royal Highness, Kampakoya Naa Yakubu Abukari,” he stated.
Mr. Afotey Otu then called on all delegates and dignitaries present to rise to honour the memory of the late Dagbon overlord.
“Naa Chairman, Your Excellency, My Lord Chief Justice, Ladies and Gentlemen, with all humility shall we rise to observe a minute silence in honour of Ya-Na Abukari II,” he requested.
After the one-minute silence was observed, he prayed for the peaceful repose of the late king.
“May his merciful and gentle soul rest in perfect peace. And may his enduring legacies continue to inspire generations and leaderships,” Mr. Afotey Otu prayed.
