Vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has described the late Kwadwo Asare-Baffour Acheampong (KABA) of Asempa FM as a “neutral” broadcast journalist.
KABA, as he was affectionately known, died in the early hours of Saturday at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Speaking after paying a brief visit to Multimedia to sign a book of condolence on Monday, Dr. Bawumia stated Ghana has lost one of its “best journalists.”
“This is a very sad day,” the vice president reiterated.
He added: “He was one of the best journalists that we have in this country. He plied his trade with such professionalism and with such unbiasedness and such neutrality.”
Dr. Bawumia stressed KABA was “very well respected” across the political divide while discharging his duty.
“So, it’s with deep shock and sadness that I come here on behalf of the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, and on my own behalf and on behalf of government to come here to wish the Multimedia Group, the management, staff and family and friends our deepest condolences on the passing away of KABA.
“We’re all still in shock and we pray to the almighty that his soul rests in peace till we meet again,” Dr. Bawumia remarked.
After signing the Book of Condolence at the Multimedia premises, the Vice President visited the Tesano home of the late broadcaster to also commiserate with his family. He was accompanied by government officials including Anthony Abayifa Karbo, MP for Lawra and Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways.
A memorial service was held at the premises of Multimedia at Kokomlemle Monday in honour of KABA.
He left behind a wife and a daughter.
