Atalanta forward Kamaldeen Sulemana finally ended his long wait for a national team goal, finding the net in Ghana’s 5-0 demolition of the Central African Republic on Wednesday at the Stade d’Honneur in Meknes.
The 23-year-old winger, who has been impressive for Atalanta this season with two goals and an assist in seven Serie A matches, tapped home from close range after a well-placed cross from Joseph Paintsil.
The goal marked Sulemana’s first for the Black Stars, ending a 22-match drought since making his international debut.
Sulemana’s lively performance silenced critics who had questioned his recent form for the national team. Unlike in previous outings, he appeared more confident and influential, using his speed and movement to trouble the opposition defence throughout the game.
His strike added gloss to a dominant display from Otto Addo’s men, with Mohammed Salisu, Alexander Djiku, Thomas Partey, and Jordan Ayew also getting on the scoresheet.
The goal is expected to give Sulemana a significant confidence boost as Ghana edge closer to qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
