The medical director of Holy Trinity Medical Centre /Spa and Health Farm Dr Kennedy Kwabena Addo has told the High Court in Accra that the medical excuse duty he issued to Kennedy Ohene Agyapong was not to delay the contempt case.

Dr Kwabena Addo was summoned to appear before the court Today, after Ken Agyapong, who is a subject of contempt was said to have suffered complications of Covid-19 conditions when he was supposed to appear before the court.

Responding to questions from the court presided over by Justice Amos Wuntah Wuni, Dr Addo told the court that, the 14 days excuse duty he signed on September 26 to the court was given due to the side effect of undesirable medication Kennedy Agyapong was on.

Dr Addo who told the court that he has been practicing for 18 years said the medication given to Ken Agyapong had a side effect for more than a week.

Asked by the court if he had any specialisation in any field of medication, he said he is a General medical practitioner.

The medical director responding to the questions from the court said Kennedy Agyapong was detained at the hospital after 10 pm on September 25 and discharged the following day, on September 26 when the form was issued.

Asked to the tell the court why the portion meant for the age of Ken Agyapong had adult written, he said it is a common practice and that the concern of people’s age is an issue in Ghana.

He added that, it was not wrong to indicate he is an adult but in the case of children it is “necessary the age” are indicated.

He, however, agreed with the court when the court expressed surprised about the fact that the portion meant for his age, had adult indicated there.

Concerning the 14 straight days he gave to Ken Agyapong he said the condition of Ken Agyapong necessitated that.

He said usually when patients are on antibiotics, they are given between five to seven days but “with respect to Ken Agyapong’s case, it was necessary to give him 14 days. His case was not the usual case to give him five to seven days.”

He denied knowledge of the fact that the contemnor who is a Parliamentarian is on break from parliament.

The court while discharging the doctor for honouring the court’s summons said “As professionals, as much as possible and in the interest of Ghana we all need to do what is right and ethical to lift the country to a higher height.”

The case was adjourned indefinitely with the court not giving any date.

Meanwhile, his lawyers have informed the court about the fact that they have been issued with a hearing notice to appear before the Supreme Court on October 13, regarding their application challenging the locus of the Court.
