The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) will begin lectures for the 2026/2027 academic year on Monday, October 19, following a directive by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) ordering public universities to resume academic activities despite the ongoing strike by university administrators.
In a notice on Wednesday, October 14, KNUST announced that fresh students are expected to report to campus on Thursday, October 15, while continuing students will return on Saturday, October 17.
The University said the revised arrangements followed an emergency meeting of its Executive Committee held on Wednesday.
The announcement comes a day after GTEC directed public universities to reopen their campuses by Friday, October 16, and ensure lectures commence on Monday, October 19, regardless of earlier decisions to postpone reopening.
The directive was issued amid an ongoing industrial dispute involving the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Technical University Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG), which has disrupted administrative operations at public universities.
In its notice, KNUST said, “Following an Emergency Executive Committee Meeting held on Wednesday, 14th October, 2026, the University wishes to inform all students, parents/guardians and other stakeholders that the arrangements for the re-opening of the 2026/2027 Academic year are as follows.”
The revised schedule is as follows:
- Thursday, October 15, 2026: Fresh students report to campus.
- Saturday, October 17, 2026: Continuing students report to campus.
- Monday, October 19, 2026: Lectures begin.
KNUST has advised students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders to take note of the new dates and make the necessary preparations.
“The University appreciates the understanding, patience and cooperation of all stakeholders,” the notice added.
