Kofi Buah calls for a non-partisan approach in fighting against galamsey

The Deputy Minority Leader, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah has called on all stakeholders in the country to fight the galamsey menace devoid of any partisan interests.

Galamsey has been a major headache confronting the country.

Successive governments have put in various measures to deal with the menace.

Various measures by the present New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to fight the menace seems to be in futility as most water bodies, forest reserves and the environment are threatened posing a danger for future generations.

Mr. Armah Kofi Buah has underscored the need for all to come together as one people to fight the galamsey menace devoid of partisan politics and personal interest.

“I’m saying that based on what I have seen and I have mentioned a government led by the President himself and all the agencies. Mining inspectorate, Minerals Commission, EPA, these institutions have a role here. This represents a failure, DIASEC, you can add me.

“I’m saying, everyday I’m sitting in Accra. Everyday I’m contributing to the statement about the dangers of galamsey. This is my backyard, this holiday entering the New Year, I’m saying “let’s have a new leadership on how to deal with it,” the Ellembelle Member of Parliament stated.

He made this appeal when he led a team of journalists in the Western Region to visit some galamsey sites in the Ellembelle constituency of the Western Region.

He lamented how cocoa farmers in the constituency are losing out on their livelihoods and businesses through the galamsey menace.

“Let the DCEs, the chiefs, let’s all sit down and say you know what, this is not good, it is not good for our future, and it’s not good for our children. We want them to get a job, what is the solution, let’s find it. Let’s make sure we don’t pollute the Ankobra, the Amanzele. Let’s do something because we can’t continue like this,” he added.
