A Circuit Court in Koforidua has granted bail to Vera Akosua Asare, a young woman accused of bathing boyfriend with acid over suspicions of infidelity.
The victim Daniel Omane,a 29-year old mobile phone dealer suffered life threatening injuries and has since been referred from the Eastern Regional Hospital to the Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery Center of the Korle Bu Teaching hospital.
The accused -Vera Akosua Asare who initiatially lived with the mother in a single room in Koforidua, moved in to stay with Daniel Omane after giving birth to their baby girl who is now two years old.
The relationship strained due to frequent misunderstandings stemming from suspicion that the boyfriend was flirting with other girls.
This tension forced Daniel Omane to end the relationship.
On the day of the attack, Daniel Omane was asleep in his room in the evening, when Vera Asare sneaked in and allegedly poured acid on him.
She attempted to runaway but co-tenants in the house heard the screams of the victim and rushed out.
The suspect was arrested and handed over to the police while the victim rushed to the Eastern Regional Hospital.
Vera Asare was remanded into police custody but granted bail by the court to take care of the baby. She will reappear on March 25,2025.
Comfort Batsa, mother of the victim has expressed the financial distress of the family stating that the family has sold its plot of land to cover the rising medical bills but yet could not afford all the expenses.
Initially Doctors at Korle Bu had suggested to the family to fly the victim to abroad for plastic surgery if they had the financial means.
The family however could not afford the foreign treatment.
Doctors at Korle Bu are now undertaking three grafting procedures for the victim estimated at Ghc60,000.
The family is appealing for public support.
