A medical doctor at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra allegedly attempted to poison his colleague physician by mixing HIV-infected blood in his drinking water while at post, Starrfm.com.gh has gathered.

The complainant told the Korle Bu Police that he had a disagreement with one of his colleagues who he suspects may have dropped the contaminated blood in his water. Both doctors work with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the hospital.

A police situational report obtained by StarrFM.com.gh said: “On 06/05/2021 at about 1130 hours complainant Dr. nana Essuman Oduro of the department of obstetrics and gynaecology of Korle – bu teaching hospital accompanied by Kwame Gyamfi, a lawyer of the same hospital came to the station and the former reported that on 27/04/2021 he was on 24-hour duty with six other doctors at labour ward 1. That after close of work, he detected his drinking water in a water bottle which he kept in the doctor’s room was contaminated with a reddish substance suspected to be blood.

“That the contaminated water was clinically tested and found to contain blood which also tested positive for HIV. That he highly suspects a colleague whom he had a disagreement with at the ward during the duty period. Case under investigation”.

The Police has confirmed the incident saying it is being investigated.

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is Ghana’s biggest referral hospital and among the most prominent health facilities in West Africa.
