The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects for allegedly dealing in unregistered pharmaceutical products in Kumasi.
The suspects were arrested on Monday, June 29, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation at the Airport Roundabout, carried out by personnel from the Ashanti Regional Police Command in collaboration with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team from the National Police Headquarters in Accra.
The suspects, identified as Abdul Karim Ramadan, 20; Wisdom Pakindam Jatuat, 38; Razak Issahaku, 37; Abdul Rahman Yakubu, 45; Iddrisu Mohammed, 26; and Nana Abio Godwin, 27, were apprehended onboard a DAF XF truck with registration number AW 511321.
According to the Police, a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 17 fertilizer sacks containing pharmaceutical tablets suspected to be unregistered.
The recovered items included 10 sacks labelled Dyclosa 50mg tablets and seven sacks labelled Royal Chest and Lungs tablets.
The suspects are currently in Police custody and assisting investigations being conducted by the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU).
The Police said the recovered pharmaceutical products have been retained as exhibits and will be submitted to the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) for examination to determine their registration status, composition and compliance with the provisions of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851).
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to working with the FDA and other relevant stakeholders to clamp down on the illegal sale and distribution of unregistered medicines and safeguard public health.
The public has also been encouraged to provide credible information on the illegal manufacture, sale or distribution of pharmaceutical products to the nearest Police Station or through appropriate emergency channels.
