Chiefs and people of the La Traditional Council have invoked curses on the military and its high command over the decision to develop portions of the 275-acre land yet to be shared and which are under negotiations.
Clad in red hand bands, the leadership of the traditional council and the youth this morning besieged the Lands commission’s office in protest to demand the alleged stolen lands.
Libation was poured, eggs, as well as bottles of schnapps, were broken and the ninety-nine gods of La invoked on any person who they say will stand in their way.
A member of the coalition of La association Jeffery Tetteh said “over the years, we’ve realized that La is expanding and we need part of the land so that we can also expand towards this end.”
“After deliberations, on 27th November 2020 government through the then minister of lands Kwaku Asomah-Kyeremeh actually announced in the presence of the military and the lands commission that they are releasing these lands to the chiefs and people of la.”
He went on “Immediately after this announcement, the chiefs were actually invited to come and sign an MoU that was supposed to be on the 4th of December. Unfortunately, on their way to sign the MoU, something very funny happened. Just about 30 minutes before they got to the ministry, they were asked to return and that they’ll call later and they gave an excuse that it was because of the elections and people had gone to campaign.”
Speaking to Regina Borley Bortey on the Starr Midday News today, Mr Tetteh intimated “they received a call this morning that they will be meeting him {Lands Minister} very soon but unfortunately for us we have had one too many a call that has ended in nothing. This time around we need to make the whole world know that this is what the military is doing and the government doesn’t seem to be proactive.”
“So we are agitating and asking that the land should be released immediately. It’s just an MoU they are supposed to sign. The government should append its signature to that MoU and tell the military that from today onwards we are giving the land to La people as they promised on 27th November.
