The Executive Director of Lands and Mines Watch Ghana, Kwame Owusu Danso, has called for deliberate efforts to resource and strengthen local companies, citing the impressive track record of businesses like Engineers & Planners as models of indigenous capability.
Speaking on State of Affairs on GhOne TV, Kwame Owusu Danso, highlighted the achievements of businessman Ibrahim Mahama, which he said predates his brother John Dramani Mahama’s presidency.
“Ibrahim Mahama was successful before his brother became President,” Danso stated.
He further stated that Mr Mahama’s accomplishments stand on their own merit.
Danso further revealed that Engineers & Planners supplied mining equipment to Goldfields, one of the world’s leading mining firns when they operated in the country.
“The Damang Mine story is one that gives confidence to Ghanaian companies…we must be intentional about resourcing and retooling local companies,” he said.
The remarks come amid ongoing national conversations on local content development in the extractive sector.
Proponents argue that empowering homegrown enterprises not only creates jobs and builds technical capacity but also ensures a larger share of mining revenues remains within the Ghanaian economy.
Engineers & Planners has grown into a major player in Ghana’s mining and construction industries, handling large-scale earthworks, equipment leasing, and contract mining services.
