President John Dramani Mahama has announced that construction of the Western Regional Hospital Project will be completed in the next eighteen (18) months, after being stalled for almost two years at 27 percent completion.
Work commenced in 2022 but hit a snag in 2023 following the debt restructuring programme undertaken by the previous NPP administration.

President Mahama, during a working visit to the region, told chiefs and people of Apemanim in the Agona Nkwanta Municipality that the resumption of the project aligns with his campaign pledge to complete abandoned and stalled projects before initiating new ones.

According to him, the resumption of work also forms part of the government’s “Resetting Agenda” aimed at expanding access to healthcare at all levels for the people of the Western Region and other parts of the country.

He emphasized that the project’s revival reflects his commitment to continuity in governance.
“During the 2024 election campaign, one of the key concerns Ghanaians raised was the tendency for new governments to abandon projects started by their predecessors. I made a firm promise that under my administration, that would change — we will continue every viable project initiated by previous governments,” President Mahama said.

He further disclosed that the Western Regional Minister had been relentless in pushing for the completion of projects in the region, including the hospital.

The delay, he explained, was primarily due to the country’s inability to service its debts in 2023, which led to banks withholding funds meant for ongoing infrastructure projects.

“Thankfully, after assuming office, my government has resolved those financial challenges. As a result, all stalled projects — including the Regional Hospital — will now resume. We are confident that within the next 18 months, the hospital will be completed and officially commissioned,” he assured.
