A fierce midnight fire tore through the Dansoman Market on Wednesday, November 26, claiming the life of an 8-year-old girl and destroying several wooden structures before firefighters finally brought the blaze under control.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the incident was first reported shortly after midnight. A crew from the Dansoman Fire Station arrived at 00:04 hrs to find large sections of the market already engulfed and the flames advancing quickly.

With the fire spreading across multiple clusters of shops, responders immediately requested backup. Fire engines from Industrial Area, Ministries, National Headquarters, Madina, Weija, Anyaa and Accra City joined the effort, along with two water tankers provided by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.
Firefighters battled the inferno from several angles, working to protect nearby structures as the flames intensified. GNFS says the fire was contained at 01:51 hrs and brought under control by 03:03 hrs. Overhauling and final extinguishing efforts continued until 05:21 hrs.

Amid the response, crews discovered the remains of an 8-year-old girl who had been trapped inside one of the affected shops. The body has been handed over to the Police while investigations continue.
Though several wooden stalls and their contents were lost, firefighters managed to prevent the blaze from consuming adjacent sections of the market.

GNFS officials say the cause of the fire has not been established, and a full investigation is underway.
