The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has seized significant quantities of illicit drugs and gold during a series of operations across key national entry points and high-risk locations.
According to the Interior Ministry’s July 2025 sector report, NACOC confiscated 192kg of cocaine, 90kg of cannabis, and 17.9kg of gold bars between January and June 2025.
The major busts occurred at Tema Port, Kotoka International Airport, and Oyarifa, among other areas identified as hotspots for narcotics trafficking and smuggling related to illegal mining.
“The Commission seized 192kg of cocaine, 90kg of cannabis, and 17.9kg of gold bars during the period,” the report stated.
The Commission also referred 94 drug-related cases to the police for prosecution and conducted 41 public education programmes nationwide to curb demand and encourage prevention.

As part of ongoing legal reforms, NACOC submitted new Narcotics Regulations to Parliament and continued stakeholder consultations on a Draft Legislative Instrument to treat drug use as a public health issue, rather than solely a criminal matter.
These interventions are aligned with the Interior Ministry’s broader efforts to tighten border surveillance, reduce organised crime, and promote a rehabilitative approach to drug addiction.
