A former education minister, Betty Mould-Iddrisu, has categorically stated she is not interested in becoming Mr. John Mahama’s running mate going into the 2020 elections.
The former attorney general also insisted she is not harbouring any presidential ambitions, adding she is focused on helping Ghana’s largest opposition party – the National Democratic Congress (NDC) – to return to power.
“No. I don’t want to be president,” Mrs. Mould-Iddrisu stressed in an interview with Morning Starr host Francis Abban.
“No. I don’t want to be vice president,” she emphasized on the Gender 101 segment of the show.
“I want to help my party win power.”
Rumours are rife that her sibling Alex Mould is a possible choice to partner Mr. Mahama for the next general polls. She described her brother as “an intelligent person” who is fit for the position, but noted it is the presidential candidate’s prerogative to decide on his running mate.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mould, a former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, has dismissed claims that he has rejected an offer to be the running mate of Mr. Mahama.
According to Mr. Mould, no offer has been made to him by the former President to pair him ahead of the 2020 elections.
“I wish to state for the record that I have NOT been approached by the NDC flagbearer for the 2020 Presidential election to play any such role. I could therefore not have turned down an offer that has not been made to me.”
