The Municipal office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) at Ejisu has been reopened after it was locked earlier on Monday, March 16, 2026 by some aggrieved supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The office was reopened following the intervention of the Ashanti Regional Security Liaison Officer, Captain (Rtd.) John Kwame Jabari, after he sent a delegation to engage the protesting supporters.
The delegation, led by Alhaji Alhassan Tabsoba and accompanied by police officers, first met with members of the protesting group. The demonstrators subsequently handed over the keys they had used to lock the facility to their party leadership.
Addressing management of the NHIA at the Ejisu Municipal Office, Alhaji Tabsoba apologised for the actions of the protesters, describing the incident as unfortunate.
He assured the NHIA management that such an occurrence would not happen again, adding that party leaders would engage the protesters to understand the reasons behind their actions.
“We have met some of them, and tomorrow the constituency chairman and I will meet all of them again to find out why they took such action at the office. We have spoken to them and they will not return to the office again,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has deployed personnel to the NHIA office to provide security and ensure the safety of staff and property.
The keys seized by the protesters have since been handed back to the Municipal Director, paving the way for the full resumption of operations at the office.
