The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the commencement of registration for Ghanaian children between the ages of 6 and 14 at all its Premium Centres nationwide.
In a press statement on Wednesday, September 10, the NIA said the initiative is part of its legal mandate to ensure that every Ghanaian, both at home and abroad, has a secure and verifiable national identity.
According to the Authority, the exercise marks another important step in building a comprehensive and inclusive National Identity Register (NIR) that captures every Ghanaian from childhood.
The fee for first-time registration at Premium Centres remains GHS 310, in line with approved charges for premium services. The requirements for registration are the same as for applicants aged 15 and above.
Parents or legal guardians are expected to present one of the following:
- A valid Ghanaian passport of the child, OR
- The original copy of the child’s birth certificate, OR
- A Ghana Card holder parent or legal guardian who can vouch for the child.
The NIA further disclosed that, effective Monday, 15th September 2025, the online registration and booking system will be expanded to all 11 remaining Premium Centres nationwide, making it more convenient for applicants to schedule appointments.
The Authority also assured parents and guardians that details regarding the issuance of Ghana Cards for children who have already registered will be communicated in due course.
It added that, in the coming weeks, registration services will be extended to all NIA District Offices nationwide to improve accessibility across the country.
The NIA encouraged applicants to make use of the online appointment booking system to ensure smooth and timely processing at Premium Centres.
