The Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has provided skills training to more than 300 young women and men in the constituency.
The training forms part of her efforts to promote economic empowerment and create sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The beneficiaries, made up largely of young women, received training in various areas, including agriculture and soap making, equipping them with practical skills to enable them to establish their own businesses and become economically self-reliant.
As part of the initiative, the beneficiaries were also presented with start-up kits after completing the training.
The kits are expected to help them put the skills acquired into practice and begin income-generating activities.
The programme forms part of efforts by the Jomoro MP, who is also the deputy transport minister, to support women and young people in the constituency with skills that can provide them with alternative sources of income.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the initiative, saying the training and start-up support would give them an opportunity to develop their skills and improve their livelihoods.
The initiative is also expected to contribute to reducing unemployment among young people while encouraging entrepreneurship and small-scale businesses within the Jomoro constituency.
Through the combination of practical skills training and start-up support, the programme seeks to move beneficiaries beyond training to actual economic activity, enabling them to apply their newly acquired skills to generate income for themselves and their families.
The Personal Assistant to Madam Affo-Toffey, Godwin Alluekeh, who supervised the training on behalf of the MP, said, “We are here today to commence a three-day skill training programme organised by Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey and the Ghana Enterprise Agency for the youth of Jomoro.
He said, “This training is designed to provide skills in agriculture and agribusiness for the youth and also help to improve the living standards of the youth.”
“The training is in four sections. Fruit juice processing, fish farming and fish processing, livestock farming and cereal processing,” Mr Alluekeh added.
He assured that “After the training each beneficiary or trainee will be given startup items and capital.”
