Political analyst Dr. Jonathan Asante-Otchere has underscored the crucial role of delegate mobilization and resource allocation in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries, citing the impressive performance of first-time aspirant Dr. Bryan Acheampong.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Dr. Asante-Otchere said, “His campaign, too, was equally of party or delegate-based and that of national, a little of national as well. But, I mean, in terms of delegate elections, if you don’t have resources, forget it. Forget it.”
The analyst explained that Acheampong’s performance demonstrates how essential strategic planning, resource deployment, and targeted engagement with delegates are for success in NPP internal elections.
“This trend is a clear reminder that in NPP delegate elections, organizing at the grassroots and ensuring delegates are actively mobilized can significantly influence outcomes,” he added.
The primaries, held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, saw former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerge victorious, but Acheampong captured over 15% of votes, drawing support from delegates traditionally aligned with Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and even some from Bawumia’s base.
