A delegate has been arrested at the Ayawaso East Constituency during the ongoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries after attempting to record the voting process, despite repeated warnings from party officials and security personnel.
According to sources at the polling centre, the delegate ignored several directives to stop filming, prompting security officers to step in and effect an arrest to safeguard the integrity of the exercise.
The incident comes amid heightened enforcement of the NPP’s directive prohibiting any form of recording at voting centres.
Party officials have also expressed strong opposition to reports of individuals allegedly wearing body cameras, insisting that such actions breach the party’s electoral rules and could compromise the secrecy of the ballot.
Despite the arrest, voting at the Ayawaso East polling centre is continuing smoothly under tight security, with more than 60 personnel deployed to maintain order.
Nationwide, about 211,000 delegates are voting at over 300 centres as the NPP elects its flagbearer for the 2028 general elections. Results are expected later today after the close of polls and collation of ballots.
