The Ghana Medical and Dental Council has shut down the Advance Body sculpture Centre at Weija in Accra after it was discovered the facility was operating without a license.
The centre, which operates as part of the Obengfo Hospital, is said to be operating illegally and putting the lives of its clients in danger.
Dr. Dominic Obeng Andoh (arrowed in the picture above) owner of the facility according to Starr News’ Atiewin Mbillah-Lawson has refused to grant access to a team from the Medical and Dental Council (MDC) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to evacuate patients at the centre and closed down the facility.
Lawson also reports that patients at the facility refused to be evacuated and defended Dr. Obengfo Andoh as a certified medical practitioner.
Dr. Andoh was arrested and whisked to the CID Headquarters last Friday but was released and asked to get a license before resuming operations but failed to do so.
The Registrar of the MDC, Dr. Eli Atikpui, in an interview on Starr Midday News said Dr. Andoh was not licensed to conduct plastic surgery at the facility.
He warned that patients who visit the facility for plastic surgery do so at their own risk.
Dr Andoh became the subject of discussion in sections of the media in 2013 after it was reported that three persons who had gone to the Obengfo Hospital for ‘liposuction’ had suffered life-threatening complications.
Dr. Atikpui had earlier said that the MDC had also received numerous complaints from the Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital of patients who reported with complications from surgical procedures they had undergone at the Obengfo Hospital.
