Old Mutual Ghana advocates for early breast cancer detection

As part of our commitment to supporting the health and well-being of our customers and community, Old Mutual Ghana is proud to participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October. We are calling on all Ghanaians, especially women, to take proactive steps in the early detection of breast cancer through regular self-examinations and medical testing.

Breast cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women in Ghana. However, when detected early, the chances of successful treatment and survival increase significantly. That is why Old Mutual Ghana is advocating for early detection practices, such as routine self-examinations and scans such as mammograms which can help save lives.

To support the celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and general well-being, Old Mutual Ghana has embarked on several activities including Health talks, breast screening and aerobic sessions for some corporate clients and institutions including the Young Adults Fellowship (YAF) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and a radio station, Beach FM in Takoradi.

Join the breast cancer support community

As a business driven by respect and support for each other as well as our community, we believe in the power of community collaboration and the importance of shared experiences.

We are therefore inviting everyone, whether you have been personally affected by breast cancer or want to show your support to join the Breast Cancer Support Community. Through this initiative, social and medical support will be provided, stories of hope will be shared, and valuable resources will be offered for those undergoing treatment, survivors and their families.

By joining the community, you can expect:

  • Access to expert advice on breast cancer prevention and treatment
  • Regular reminders and tips on self-examinations
  • Encouragement and support from fellow community members
  • Invitations to exclusive events, including wellness workshops and medical screenings

How you can get involved

  1. Practice self-examination – Regular self-examination is a simple but powerful way to detect changes in your breast health. Early detection is key.
  2. Schedule a medical appointment – Visit any of our partner healthcare facilities for medical advice on getting a scan or a mammogram done.
  3. Join the community – Visit https://www.oldmutual.com.gh/about-us/how-we-give-back/breast-cancer-support-community/ to join the Breast Cancer Community for updates, support, and resources.
  4. Share Your Story – Encourage others by sharing your experiences with breast cancer or by spreading the word about the importance of early detection.

We are committed to supporting a platform where our community can access vital information and form meaningful connections around breast cancer awareness and overall well-being. Together, we can fight this disease, make a difference and support each other every step of the way as we work toward a future with fewer lives lost to breast cancer.

Remember, early detection saves lives!
