Staff of the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital will hang their tools Monday, July 10, 2017 to protest the encroachment of the health facility’s land by private developers.
According to the staff, the government has failed to address the issue hence their intended action.
The head of staff at the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital Elvis Akuamoah said although management is dealing with the issue, “we as staff do not see any result to curb the situation.”
He said they will hit the streets on Wednesday if nothing is done about the situation.
“All we see is rapid degradation of the land at the frontage of the hospital and development of permanent structures for residence and business purposes at the cost of security for both staff and patients of this institution,” Akuamoah told the media.
He stressed, “There has been recent upsurge on incidence of theft, attacks on staff en route to and from work. These activities pose a threat to the recovery of these vulnerable patients that are with us to take care of. In our observations, none of the major hospitals such as 37 Military Hospital and Korle Bu shares boundaries with residential facilities and businesses hindering access to the major road networks, especially in emergency situations.”
Mr. Akuamoah therefore served notice that “we have resolved that staff of the hospital will start a sit down strike form Monday, July 10, 2017 and will be followed with a halt of the operations of the hospital on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 and hit the streets if no action has been taken to address the situation and continue to stay away from the hospital until we have seen a resolution to this problem.”
