Six out 21 called-up players were involved as the Ghana senior men’s team, the Black Stars kicked off preparations towards their international friendlies against Japan and Iceland on Tuesday.
The session, held at the Legon Presec Park, had five outfield players – Rashid Sumaila, Nicholas Opoku, Emmanuel Boateng, Afriyie Acquah and Nana Ampomah taken through a number of physical drills by second assistant coach Maxwell Konadu.
While at it, goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi also enjoyed his drills with trainer Richard Kingson.
First assistant Ibrahim Tanko began ball work with the five players before head coach Kwasi Appiah, Welfare Manager Stephen Appiah and Konadu joined in a drill which ended Tuesday morning’s training session.
Speaking to reporters after the training, coach Appiah explained the reasons behind the low numbers recorded at the Stars training.
“Some of the players have their season still ongoing – like those in Switzerland especially. Hopefully, they should finish this coming weekend. The plan is for them to meet us in Amsterdam then we continue from
“With those coming to Ghana, we would have about 9 or 10 of them but we thought it is important we train with those who will be here instead of allowing them to sit idle,” the Black Stars gaffer explained.
The Black Stars are scheduled to play 2018 World Cup-bound Japan and Iceland on May 30 and June 7 respectively.
