The President of the Renal Patients Association of Ghana, Baffour Kojo Ahenkorah is pleading with the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) to end its strike action and return to work.
Renal patients regularly visit the medical facilities for dialysis and other forms of treatment and will immensely be affected by the industrial action.
Mr. Ahenkorah appealed to the nurses to consider the plight of patients who were trooping into medical facilities nationwide only to be left stranded.
“We are appealing to the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association to return to work,” he stated in an interview on Starr Today with Efua Tutuwaa Danso on Wednesday, June 11.
On 2nd June, 2025, the GRNMA declared a strike, saying it had not been given compensations due its members. The group also expressed concern over government’s decision to abandon prior commitment to increase their emoluments.

The government insists it cannot fulfill those commitments as it is currently running on a tight budget. It has pledged to address the financial concerns next year, a proposal the registered nurses have roundly rejected.
Meanwhile, the government is calling on retired nurses to return to the wards to help deal with the influx of patients at the various health centres.
