The Greater Accra Regional Hospital (GARH), popularly known as Ridge Hospital, has strongly condemned the assault of a nurse during a recent incident at its Emergency Department, which has since gone viral on social media.
In a press release dated Monday, August 18, 2025, hospital management explained that the Emergency Department is one of the busiest in the country, receiving multiple critical cases daily. At the time of the incident, clinicians were actively attending to other emergencies when relatives and friends of accident victims stormed the emergency triage.
Their overwhelming presence, the statement noted, disrupted the smooth delivery of care, created tension, and even endangered the safety of health workers. In the chaos, one of the hospital’s dedicated nurses was assaulted, forcing a temporary halt in service delivery.
The incident gained public attention after a video surfaced online showing a heated confrontation between emergency ward staff and a group of individuals, including popular social media activist Ralph. The footage, widely circulated across various platforms, sparked intense public debate about patient care, hospital response times, and the conduct of both medical staff and relatives during emergencies.
“The safety and well-being of our staff and patients remain our top priority. Any form of interference, aggression, or assault towards our staff is unacceptable, as it disrupts care and puts lives at risk,” the statement stressed.
Management added that the Ghana Police Service was immediately invited to restore calm, after which clinicians resumed the delivery of critical care.

GARH also cautioned the public against taking videos or photographs of patients and clinicians without consent, describing it as a violation of both privacy and hospital regulations.
The hospital further reassured Ghanaians of its continuous commitment to providing quality and timely healthcare, while urging relatives of patients and the general public to cooperate with clinicians and give them the needed space and respect to work effectively.
