The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has urged Ghana’s Ambassadors and High Commissioners to actively promote the country as a prime destination for sports and recreation investment.
Speaking on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the Conference of Heads of Mission and Orientation Programme for Newly Appointed Envoys, Mr. Adams encouraged diplomats to integrate sports diplomacy into their work abroad as part of Ghana’s broader Economic Diplomacy Agenda.
He highlighted key areas with high investment potential, including sports infrastructure, fitness and wellness industries, youth talent academies, and the manufacturing and distribution of sports equipment.
He also called on envoys to explore Public–Private Partnerships (PPPs), assuring them of government’s commitment to maintaining a favorable investment climate.
The Minister outlined several policy interventions underway to transform the sector, notably the Sports Development Fund, which has received presidential approval and will soon be presented to Parliament.
The fund, he said, is designed to provide sustainable financing for sports.
Other initiatives include the National Recreation and Wellness Programme—promoting mass participation through activities such as National Aerobics Day—and the School Sports Revitalisation Agenda, which aims to rebuild grassroots talent pipelines in partnership with the Ministry of Education and tertiary institutions.
The conference, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, brought together envoys and sector experts to discuss strategies for boosting Ghana’s economic diplomacy and enhancing the country’s global competitiveness.
