The Ranking Member of the Health Committee of Parliament Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has sued the Bono regional chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party Kwame Baffoe Abronye over his reported claims that the lawmaker demanded money from the Health Minister over the botched Sputnik V deal.

Mr Abronye is reported to have made the claim on Oman FM on a show hosted by Kwabena kwakye.

Among other things, the MP for Juaboso, who was part of the adhoc parliamentary committee that probed failed deal, is praying for “A declaration that the Plaintiff’s reputation has been injured by reason of the false, malicious, unjustifiable and reckless defamatory statement uttered by the 1st Defendant and further published by Oman 107.1 FM, promoted and sponsored by the 2nd Defendant.

“An order of the Honourable Court directed at the Defendants to publish an unqualified retraction and an apology on Oman 107.1 FM with the same prominence the defamatory words received within 7 days after the judgment”.

The suit is also demanding an “An order of the Honourable Court for perpetual injunction restraining the Defendants, their agents, assigns and servants from further publishing any defamatory words against the Plaintiff.

“The sum of One Million Ghana Cedis (GH₵1,000,000.00) in general damages against the 1st Defendant.

“The sum of One Million Ghana Cedis (GH₵1,000,000.00) in general damages against the 2nd and 3rd Defendants”.

Meanwhile, the lawmaker has also noted that further investigations by the Minority Caucus have revealed that government spent another GHC109 million on COVID vaccines without Parliamentary approval.

He said the payment which was captured in the Midyear review budget did not appear before the health committee of the House or any other committee of the lawmaking chamber.

“There’s another leg coming up because about GHC109 million has been paid and that’s got to do with #COVID19 vaccines. That was captured in the midyear review budget but it did not come to the House. I’m a ranking member of the health committee so I would have known or seen it but it is not anywhere in the House. They did not bring it to the House,” he told Nana Aba Anamoah on Starr Chat Wednesday.
