Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu and Spokesperson for NDC 2024 Manifesto has expressed surprise at the scale of state capture in Ghana.
In an interview on GHOne TV State of Affairs show with Lantam Papanko, Ablakwa described the situation as “awful” and “terrible”.
“It is more than bad. It is awful. It’s terrible. Look, we have just come out of a major national campaign to stop a cabinet minister from annexing our state hotels,” Ablakwa said. He added that the president’s recent statement that the campaign was unessential was shocking. “Can you believe that? No regard for conflict of interest rules.”
Ablakwa also disclosed that state capture is materializing in the looting of lands all over the country. He mentioned that the sale of prime lands at the AU village was parted to individuals, including high-ranking government officials. “On the 31st of August 2022, the president sold prime lands at the LA Wireless AU village enclave to Kate Gyamfua, NPP women’s organization. That’s in the president’s suit,” Ablakwa asserted.
The Lands Commission has been accused of managing public lands on behalf of the president, but Ablakwa counters that the president cannot be disentangled from the scandal. He pointed out that the president has the authority to direct the Lands Commission and that public lands cannot be sold without express consent from the president.
Mr. Ablakwa’s revelations have stirred up concerns about the scale of state capture in Ghana and the need for critical action to prevent further plundering of public resources.
