The Circuit Court in Tamale has issued arrest warrants for two suspects involved in a shooting incident in the Fuo community that resulted in the death of Yakubu Mohammed Habib at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The suspects, Abdul-Majeed (Warrant No. 4/2025) and Abdul Majeed Saeed, also known as Mr. Money (Warrant No. 3/2025), have been declared wanted by the court.

Two suspects are alleged to have assaulted Yakubu Mohammed Habib at his home on 25/2/2025 without any provocation.

They later gathered their friends and returned to the victim’s house, where they shot him in the left thigh, causing significant damage to vital tissues.

Alhassan Fuseini, 32, one of the assailants who invaded the victim’s home, was arrested and charged with two counts: conspiracy to commit a crime, specifically murder, and the use of offensive weapons, in violation of sections 70, 23 (1), and 69 of the Criminal Offences Act of 1960 (Act 29).

The prosecutor argued that the suspect’s bail plea should be denied, as he is likely to pose additional threats to the victim’s family.

The court, presided over by His Honour Francis Asobayire (Esq.), subsequently remanded the suspect in custody for two weeks to allow for further police investigation.

Brief Facts

It is the case of the Prosecution that, on February 25, 2025, around 9:00pm, Muktadel was assaulted by his neighbour, Baba Habib, and several of his friends in the Fuo community.

Yakubu Ibrahim, who lives at house number KB 148, intervened and identified himself as the brother of Mustapha Muktadel.

It said, around 12:30am, on February 26, 2025, Mustapha Muktadel received a call from Baba Habib, who said he was at Mustapha’s house and wanted to see him.

The Prosecution added that, Mustapha declined the visit but a few minutes after the call, he heard loud noises and banging on his door, which compelled him to come out.

When he opened the door, he saw Baba Habib accompanied by about 20 other individuals while one of the men in Habib’s group asked who Muktadel was, and Baba Habib pointed towards him as he stepped out of his room.

After Muktadel was identified by Baba Habib as the gentleman they were looking for, Abdul-Majeed ran to his Mitsubishi Pajero vehicle, emerged with a pump-action gun, and fired warning shots into the air.

The Prosecution said, he then aimed at Yakubu Mohammed Habib, 26, and shot him down.

On February 26, 2025, at 5:00am, Yakubu Ibrahim, 34, of KB148 in Fuo, Tamale, the brother of the deceased reported the incident to the police, which occurred at the victim’s home.

Victim Yakubu Mohammed Habib was rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries at approximately 4:30 AM.

The police visited the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where Dr Abdul Ganiwu-Aliu, the doctor on duty, informed them about the victim’s condition. He reported that Yakubu suffered a gunshot wound to the left thigh.

According to the doctor, the victim was shot at close range, causing significant damage to vital tissues, which ultimately led to his bleeding out.

The suspects, Baba Habib, 26, and Alhassan Fuseini, 32, who were part of the gang that invaded the victim’s home, were arrested and remanded in prison custody to assist the police with their investigation.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital morgue, pending an autopsy.
