Ghana will restore its diplomatic presence in Tehran later this month after a three-month suspension prompted by escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday, September 2, that the country’s embassy in Iran will officially reopen on September 16, 2025.
The mission was closed on June 16 this year as a precautionary measure to protect staff and Ghanaian nationals amid a sharp escalation of hostilities between Iran and Israel.
In its latest update, the ministry said the improved security situation in Tehran had created the right conditions for the embassy to resume operations.
Officials assured that the welfare of both diplomatic staff and members of the Ghanaian community remains a priority and that developments in the region will continue to be closely monitored.
The ministry emphasized its broader commitment to safeguarding Ghanaians abroad, noting that swift measures—including temporary closures—would be taken whenever security risks arise.
The reopening marks a return to normal diplomatic activity between Ghana and Iran after months of precautionary disengagement.
