The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has filed charges against some four public officials, including a National Insurance Commission officer and an ex-staff at the Office of the Vice President, for allegedly conspiring to unlawfully acquire 10 containers of imported rice at Tema Port.
This was announced by the OSP in an X post on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
The four suspects Issah Seidu, James Keck Osei, John Abban and Peter Archibald Hyde, have all been charged with corruption-related crime.
The rice, the OSP explained that the rice, cleared from Thailand in 2022, was claimed with forged papers, one of which falsely bore the Vice Presidents letterhead.
Seidu and Osei, the statement added, worked with Customs superiors Abban and Hyde to jump routine port checks and sneak the containers out.
The scheme, meant to sell the goods to Seidu even though duties had been settled, collapsed after an agency audit and a High Court order blocked the release.
The suspects are set to appear in court on Friday, June 27, 2025.
