NPP isn’t our standard – Dafeamekpor

South Dayi MP says NDC measures itself by public expectations, not party rivalry.

Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) does not view the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as its benchmark, asserting that the ruling party holds itself to a higher standard grounded in accountability and integrity.

Speaking on StarrChat with Bola Ray on Thursday, June 19, the Majority Chief Whip stated that the NDC draws inspiration from the aspirations of Ghanaians rather than comparing itself to its political opponents.

“If the NPP were our standard, we wouldn’t be where we are. We in the NDC measure ourselves by the aspirations of the people. In the NDC, you’re cautioned not to copy the NPP,” he said.

Referencing a statement by the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, he added:

“Don’t mimic them. If you mimic them, they are a master at what they do — so you can’t copy them and become a master. The master will always trap you. Stay to your cause, stay to your ethos, your principles, your probity, your accountability — and that’s what Ghanaians want.”

Dafeamekpor further noted that Ghanaians now expect leaders to be accountable for their stewardship, warning that wrongdoing in public office has consequences.

“When politicians steal from the people, they may be punished — if not today, then tomorrow, and sometimes even through their children,” he cautioned.

The MP’s remarks add to broader calls within the NDC for a values-based approach to governance as the party navigates its current leadership role.
