Former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has formally announced her intention to contest the General Secretary position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as part of efforts to rebuild the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a Facebook post on Monday, October 20, 2025, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful called on party members to unite and reignite the spirit that once defined the NPP’s tradition of resilience and purpose.
“We came out bruised, our individual and collective egos battered. We lie not in a good place. However, as our great tradition has demonstrated over the years, we will thrive. Scathed, we refuse to be burnt… like the Phoenix, we will rise and be ready,” she wrote.
She blamed the NPP’s 2024 electoral defeat on internal disunity and what she described as the Mahama administration’s deceptive campaign tactics, saying the ruling party “lied their way into government.”
“This caretaker NDC government is there not just because they are preferred, they are there because they lied their way into government, amidst lofty promises, and caused belief in us to wane. But we will revive it,” she stated.
Outlining her vision, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful pledged to rebuild confidence within the party from the grassroots to the national level, emphasizing unity as the key to reclaiming power.
She described her decision as a “rescue mission” to return the NPP to its founding ideals of “Development in Freedom” and restore public trust in the party’s ability to deliver progress for Ghanaians.
Looking ahead to the 2028 elections, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful said her campaign would focus on reorganizing the NPP’s structures, rebuilding morale, and preparing the party for a strong comeback.
“we need to re-shape, re-organise, and put ourselves in a good place to effectively represent the desired change and restore the belief of Ghanaians in us as the institutors of growth and development,” she said.
