The police and election officials at the special voting centre taking place in the Ayawaso West-Wuogon constituency moved quickly to prevent an all-out brawl between supporters of the two leading parties at the premises.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) side had alleged that the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Lydia Alhassan, who was present at the centre was sharing things to voters in line to cast their ballot.
They believed that it was an attempt to induce the voters in what has been billed to be a competitive parliamentary election this year.
NDC Parliamentary Candidate, John Dumelo, who was also at the premises echoed claims of vote buying on the part of his opponent, expressing outright condemnation of the act.
“Lydia [Alhassan] is sharing things to people who have not voted and she is sharing things to people in the line which is bad. What kind of stupidity is this? Mr. Dumelo questioned.
He said he was prepared to “give her a showdown” if she continued on that tangent.
The contest between the two is a rematch from the 2020 parliamentary election after Ms. Alhassan, popularly known as ‘Maa Lydia’ won it with less than 3000 votes.
