As Ghanaians prepare to cast their votes in the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
In a statement dated December 2, 2024, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, emphasized that the OSP is fully deploying its anti-corruption mandate to prevent, control, and repress corrupt practices, fraud, and unfair dealings related to the elections.
The OSP issued a strong caution to electoral officers at polling stations, collation centers, and those responsible for the transmission and publication of results. The statement warned that deliberately falsifying vote counts or making false returns is a severe offence that will attract stringent legal consequences.
Furthermore, the OSP reminded the general public of the illegality of corrupt acts in relation to elections, including vote buying, vote selling, voter impersonation, and any form of intimidation or violence.
“The Office is alive to its mandate and would promptly address any such occurrence which comes to its notice,” the statement read.
